About Some Distant Galaxy

Some Distant Galaxy is an independent magazine about online slots, casino play and the basics of sports betting, written for readers aged 18 and over. We cover the parts of the hobby that tend to hide behind bright banners: how progressive jackpots grow, what a bonus really asks of you, what a return-to-player figure can and cannot tell you, and how playing on a phone changes the experience.

We enjoy these games and we write about them with curiosity rather than hype. That means we explain how things work, point out the small print and say plainly that the house keeps an edge in every game. You will not find win promises here, secret systems or lists of "sure things".

What we write about

Our articles fall into five sections:

  • Casino Gambling is the largest, covering slot mechanics, game technology, seasonal titles and how online casinos are changing across Asia.
  • Mobile Gambling looks at playing on smaller screens, from first sessions to loyalty schemes.
  • Jackpots & Bonuses unpacks prize pools and promotions, including how must-drop jackpots work.
  • Sports Betting explains football markets and bet types in everyday language.
  • Play Smart gathers the habits and tools that keep play a pastime: budgets, reminders and the thinking traps worth knowing.

Who writes it

The magazine is run by a small crew writing under pen names. None of us claims a professional title, and we do not present ourselves as advisers of any kind. We are people who like the games, read the rules closely and try to describe them accurately.

  • Bastian Morrowfield looks after slots and jackpots, and is happiest buried in a paytable.
  • Delphine Varga covers football markets and how betting prices are put together.
  • Caspar Lune writes about mobile play, game technology and the way apps are designed.
  • Rosalind Quell edits every piece and writes most of our Play Smart articles.

How we see our readers

We assume you are an adult who can make your own choices and would like the facts to make them with. So we try to be clear rather than clever, give examples with obviously invented numbers, and close every article with a short reminder about playing within your means. Gambling laws differ from one country to the next, and we cannot tell you what is allowed where you live, so please check that yourself before playing anywhere.

If you are new to the site, the Launch Checklist is a friendly place to begin, and Stay Grounded explains how we think about limits and when to step away. Questions, corrections and ideas for future articles are always welcome through our contact page.

The crew

Four pen names, one shared habit of reading the small print

Every byline here is a pen name, and none of us claims a professional title. What we bring is curiosity and patience with long terms and conditions.

  • Bastian Morrowfield

    Slots and jackpots

Opens the paytable before anything else and has opinions about must-drop meters.

  • Delphine Varga

    Football markets

Follows weekend fixtures and explains how prices and settlement rules fit together.

  • Caspar Lune

    Mobile play and game tech

Tests how lobbies, reminders and limit settings behave on a small screen.

  • Rosalind Quell

    Copy desk and Play Smart

Reads every draft cold and writes most of our pieces on budgets and thinking traps.

Overheard in the newsroom

Lines the crew keeps repeating

  • The meter is shared by everyone; the budget is yours alone. — Bastian Morrowfield

  • A price is a question the bookmaker has already answered in its own favour. — Delphine Varga

  • If a reminder pops up, read it as if a friend had asked. — Caspar Lune

  • Every example number we print is labelled, because readers deserve to know what is invented. — Rosalind Quell
